About 8:25am CST my mom, uncle, and bro left for Corpus Christi. All the
way we are listening to Selena. We arrived in Corpus about 11:00 am.
The first thing we did was GET ME A HAIRCUT. We went to some place we
found the girl who had Selena pics up on her salon’s wall (I took a pic
of them, but it did not come out good). We were there for about 5-10
minutes and then we were off to see our first Selena site.
Unfortunately, we did not know where Selena's house was located (I knew
the address but not how to get there). So we talked to some people about
how to get there (they got us half way). So we stopped at gas station
and asked how to get there. Luckily we discovered that the gas station
attendant was a Selena fan and she told us how to get there.
When we arrived at the house, we started taking pictures. After that we
went back to the gas station attendant and asked her how to get to her
Selena's boutique. She told us and we were on our way (I should have
taken a picture of her as she was soooo nice).
We got to the street Selena's boutique was on, but then we passed it so
we had to go back. When we finally arrived my first thought was "wow,
this is small". It was not this big type thing - it was just this little
store. We went in side and I took a pic (I didn’t realize that
no-picture-taking was allowed). The asked me for the camera. I gave it
to them (I got it back on the way out). We stayed for about 5 minutes. I
bought a T-shirt, the ‘Ones’ CD and a poster. They told us how to get to
the other Selena sites.
Our next stop was the Selena statue, but without even looking we spotted
the cemetery with Selena's grave. So we were like, "well we are here, so
lets go in”.
We stopped and asked one of the workers where Selena’s grave was
located. He told us. When we got there it look so beautiful (as you can
see in the pics). We got out of the car and went up to the grave.
Man my heart felt like it was in my throat.
We stayed there for about half an hour. Just before we left I was
standing there and started to cry like a baby at the foot of Selena’s
grave.
Selena means so much to me.
As a proud Mexican-American, I look at her example and I truly believe I
can accomplish anything I put my mind to. As Selena said, "the
impossible is possible' if you put your mind to it.
Selena was such a normal person. She was not like “I am the best and you
can't ever beat me" (even if that was true LOL). She was so down to
earth and that's what I love about her. Plus her music is so great.
Eventually I got myself together and started to leave. On the way out I
blew Selena a kiss ‘Goodbye’.
Before our next stop, the Selena statue, we stopped for some food. We
also bought another camera. We walked around ‘Mirador del la Flor’ for
about 20mins. Then we got back in the car and started the journey back
home.
Although at times my heart was heavy, I had a lot of fun. It was nice to
actually see the sites in person, instead of having to rely on pictures.
In a way it brought my closer to this wonderful person, who I love so
much. I will be forever grateful to Selena for inspiring me to be a
better person.
